Introduction

A lot of people use the words Artificial intelligence and machine learning interchangeably. Although they are intertwined they differ from each other.

Artificial Intelligence which is popularly known as (AI) was coined in 1956 but just gained recognition. AI is a technique that enables machines to mimic and act like human beings with minimal human assistance. Some examples of AI are Apple Siri, Tesla self-driving car, manufacturing robots, etc.

Machine learning (ML) came into existence in the late 80s/ early 90s. It is a subset of Artificial Intelligence that uses statistical methods to enable machines to generate structured data and give accurate results or predictions based on that data. Some examples of ML are image recognition, medical diagnosis, speech recognition, etc.

Key differences between Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning are:

ARTIFICAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)MACHINE LEARNING (ML)
● Makes computers system act like humans to solve complex issues.● Allows machines to learn from data in order to give accurate output.
● Stimulates intelligence to solve big problems.● Learns from data to maximize performance.
● AI focuses on intelligence and wisdom.● ML focuses on knowledge.
● AI is concerned about maximizing the chances of success.● ML is more concerned about accuracy.
● AI deals with Structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data.● Machine learning deals with Structured and semi-structured data.
